Checking level of O2 on K tank?

Hey gang,

Is there a way to check the level of the O2 in my K tank.
I tried boiling water down the outside outside of the tank but it did not freeze at the O2 level like a propane tank might do.

Guess this makes sense since there is no liquid in the tank, just compressed gas.

Thanks

Is it a K tank? If so, there is NO liquid Oxygen in it, just compressed. You need a Dewer to hold Liquid Oxygen. Does your regulator have a tank side dial for pressure? If so, it should start full around 2500 psi and drop to 0 psi when empty. You estimate how much gas is left by tank side pressure.

and don't forget, when your regulator says zero psi...there can still be quite a bit in there. i use that time to make canes and pull stringers and the like.....i don't care if i run out mid-pull on a stringer or cane.

Thanks Larry,

Just edited my post as I had confused the compressed O2 in my K tank with the liquid LP in a propane tank when it comes to telling what was left in it.

Excellent tip on the pressure. Yes, I do have the tank side pressure gauge...and now I know what its for too.

Thanks again

The tank side pressure should be fairly linear. If the tank started at 2100 PSI, 1000 PSI is about half, 500 PSI is about a quarter, etc.
