Nail Salon Ventilation for Lampworking?
 

I'm getting together a list of equipment to set up a studio in my garage and while researching ventilation I stumbled upon these all in one ventilation systems nail salons use. They seem to be designed to pull fine particles and fumes out of the air at a safe rate and are now required by a law in a few states.

Does anyone know if something like this would work for a glass setup? Has anyone tried one?

I'm trying to avoid cutting holes in my garage so this seemed like a great find but I want to be safe more than anything else. This seemed like a possible option but I'd love a more experienced opinion.

I don't think those would work. Those ard designed to capture particulate. You need to vent harmful fumes out of your work area. The only way to do that is to vent it outside.

I don't know, but I wonder if you can contact the company and see if that system is safe for propane and heavy metal fumes.
It seems pretty pricey!

There is a blog entry by Andrea Guarino? where she has someone help her come up with a portable system that she uses but the vented air does go outside her studio through a moveable tube if I remember right.

That makes sense. I was being hopeful! I feel like I can't get started without proper ventilation and I can't get ventilation without holes in walls.. it's a catch 22 for sure.

Eileen thanks for the link! The portable system looks like it might be a way to go. You're right about contacting the company for details about what those systems can pull away. I do feel like the company that comes up with a portable vent system for glass makers could kill it in the marketplace though.
