Goldenwest Swap Meet in Huntington Beach, CA! There is a vendor, Toolman, who sells tools for artists. Great resource. Great prices!

I just got my first order from Widget. Fast delivery and cheap. I was really happy. God I miss Huntington Beach.

thanks i went to widget supply and looked around, i almost always use 3/32nd mandrels which size of bit should i get..i saw all the 30pc sets for about $7 but am not sure which one to get..any suggestions..thx

Tink 2007-05-01 12:29pm

This is the set I would get:
http://www.widgetsupply.com/page/WS/...amond-set/OD06
It's on sale, and it's 240 grit, plus it has all the sizes and shapes you could ever need.

Also, you'll want to pick up one of the two keyless chucks at the top of this page:
http://www.widgetsupply.com/page/WS/...-keyless-chuck
That eliminates having to change out the collet when using bits with different size shanks.

rverk47 2007-05-01 12:41pm

thanks tink, gee i can't believe how cheap they are, is there anything else you recommend..thx

anybody have any pictures of glass bead caps??thx

sandree 2007-05-04 5:52am

I am dremel challenged!! Here's what happens. I buy a dremel (latest is a Mini Mite), put my diamond bit in and clean my beads for half a year. Holding the bit under water so the diamonds don't rub off. Half a year later, the diamonds have rubbed off (I do only boro and it is hard on them, I guess) and I can't get the bit out of the dremel because it has rusted. So I have to go get another dremel. Sheesh...am I stupid, or something? Are the keyless chucks the answer to my problem? If so, how the heck do you use them?

Sandy (from a long line of the tool challenged)

Edited to ask if you have any pictures of the bead caps you make. Do you have a little tutorial written up on how to do it?. Sounds like I really would love to do this

This is what I need the reamers to clean out my beads. Do you happen to have an item number?

For 3/32" mandrels, I recommend

I use these all the time and they do a great job.

Bead Caps

Here are some capped beads with detail shots of the caps:

A friend of mind broke an heirloom dish that she and her mother and grandmother had all used for cooking rice. I had her send me a chunk of the glass from the dish, and I made this for her:

Here's a link to my tut. I need to update it, as I have found easier ways to do some of the steps, but it's functional:

Tink, that is amazing. Thank you so very much for the link to your tut I will be checking it out.....

Thank you :-)

Tink, I know that this sounds like a stupid question regarding the dremel, but I am going to buy another one this weekend. (I gave my original to my DD.) I thought that I should buy a cordless dremel because I would need to clean my beads with water. Am I right or wrong on this? I don't want to be electrocuted.
Can you give me guidance?

Mallory

Tink 2007-05-05 5:55am

Hi Malllory! There's no such thing as a stupid question! I would DEFINITELY go with a cordless. I have two Dremel Mini Mites and they're great! I plan to get a cordless Multi Pro soon: Higher RPMs, which is good for some of the things I do.

I have a corded Multi Pro with all the doodads and gadgets (Flexshaft, foot pedal, ets) and I rarely use it.

Here's the one I want. Great price:

Tink rocks!!! I hope I can take a class from her some day!!! Maybe the next time she's in Austin!!!

Tink 2007-05-05 7:06am

:-) That's sweet! Thanks!

I also wanted to mention that Dremel sells cordless tools for grooming pet nails, cleaning golf stuff and carving pumpkins. Those are typically priced a lot lower than the Mini Mite... Like under $20. I can't remember what the RPMs are on them, but I remember thinking they are a viable, inexpensive alternative.

Keeping the Dremel dry.

I was concerned about the splatter coming off my Dremel when cleaning beads. My husband found a sheet of Perspex, about 12 inches square, and cut a hole in it the size of the Dremel head. about 3 inches up from the bottom. The motor side of the Dremel is behind the screen, and the drill head is screwed onto the front side, so the splatter does not touch anything electrical. Works like a charm, when I put a tray underneath to catch drips. The screen wipes clean after use.
