Chemtane???

:???:I have been using a bulk tank of Mapp gas for three years and now my gas supplier has stop carrying Mapp and bought me Chemtane instead. Has anyone successfully used Chemtane? I find the beads have a yellowy tint and the 7.5 lb tank cools alot faster than the 7.5 lb tank of Mapp gas. Would I be better off trying propane? I would appreciate any help making the change. Lori

Chemtane is the same thing as Mapp gas. I never tried propane but I would imagine it's cheaper than either Mapp or Chemtane. Only thing is you will have to be cautious and slow with the propane to make sure the unburned fuel doesn't discolor your glass.

See if your supplier can get Chem-O-Lene. I used it with the HH and it did the job. I was even told by one of the Gurus on this forum I could not use Chem-O-Lene in place of propane with oxygen on a Bobcat.
Try it. You'll like it.

I've been using Chemtane for over 5 years now. I was told that it burns hotter than propane and I'll take all the heat I can get from my hothead. I use a 20 or 25 lb tank, I can never remember which so I have no trouble with freezing up. My clears are clear and I've always been more than happy with it.

I used chemtane for years before changing torches. Never had any sooty problems with the fuel.

I don't notice any sooting (grey) but my clear seems to have a yellow tint. I guess it will just take some getting used to.

No Chemtane is NOT same as MAPP GAS....

Chemtane is..

One (1) part CHEMTANE 2 concentrate to 199 parts propane/LPG.

http://www.chemtane2.com/tools/data_...prod_info.html

MAPP is a mixture. of...

Propylene 40 - 50%
Methyl Acetylene 27 - 33%
Propadiene (Allene) 13 - 15%

http://www.airgas.com/documents/pdf/002015.pdf

They only have similar combustion properties....
