One thing with any mandrel is that you have to scrub it down to give it some tooth so the release has something to stick to. Otherwise the mandrels are too smooth and the release slides right off it.

Sometimes you get a hole down the middle of a rod on hand pulls where there was a bubble in the mass when it was pulled out. It will be very shocky because of that hole.

I think she stopped making them at least 8 years ago and I beleive she droped out of lampork all together. The only way to get some is to advertise and buy them used from secondary markets.
