Short answer...you add depth and if you are using any striking colors it's a great way to achieve amazing color combinations! Clear frit should be a staple in any boro artist's cabinet.

I second Cosmo's list but add NS Butterscotch rod as it's a very forgiving neutral that can take what ever you toss at it. I would also add some NS Star White and a rod or two of some crayon colors...
