Wow glass, I use a metal punty for soft glass buttons and off mandrel things. When you are finished and ready for annealing just heat the punty and it will release cleanly. Just another way to do it...

I mix my silicon carbide with distilled water and...
I mix my silicon carbide with distilled water and leave it in the tumbler to use again. Rinse the slurry off of the beads in a small bowl of water and let the s.c. settle to pour back in the tumbler....

Eric, I use a rotary tumbler with 800 grit s.c. for a nice matte finish. Pieces with bumps or creases don't etch as well. Plastic pellets or small beads make good filler for the tumbling barrel.
