Nthing the pale tints. I default to crystal clear (I'm too impatient to melt down the thicker Schott rods on my teensy hothead, generally), but the tints simply never get scummy or weird.

Disguising chipped ends in finished pieces

I have a few recent beads that turned out beautiful, but chipped a tiny bit near the bead hole on one end when coming off my old, sadly fairly bent 1/16" mandrels before going into the kiln for batch...

Thanks! I just love the depth of color you can get with lustre stringer over reactive bases. It looks like some of the 104 silver glasses to me. Fun to play with!

I think that's hard with the hothead because it just takes so long for my clear to heat up enough to encase without flashing the bead while heating the clear. Maybe I'll try pre-heating the clear rod...

On further experimentation, I think the stainless steel ones are least likely to survive the bubbles uncracked. I plan to test a bigger batch on nickel silver next.

Yeah, I know annealing bubbles don't really anneal. Stupid name. But they do seem to help avoid cracking better than vermiculite, at least.
