Yeah I have my propane set way higher, but I'm usually going at the same time as multiple other torches so maybe that has something to do with it. Also use an oxycon.

Actually, a search indicates some of the moulds are zinc heavy. Maybe not a good idea at high temps.

Yeah, Amber is a very soft "stone" (actually petrified tree sap and not a "gem" at all) so it can chip and scratch if it's not taken care of, or if it's strung with a harder material digging into it...
