First I used a orbital sander on them to rough up the surface. Than used Benjamin Moore all in one kind of paint. Primer/sealer. Two coats. It takes 30 days to fully cure so kind of tender....

I've done both. The problem with the puffy mandrel is that my beads are lopsided. Just hollow on one side and solid on the other side. Need to PPP.
