Yes more oxygen, its the oxy that helps burn it off not necessarily the heat.
alos here is a tip I just figured out I was using gold fume on a Maria and then adding white lines for a tiny pink rose. I was getting allot of bubbles and thought maybe I was boiling the white. But what helped was baking the gold into the surface of the maria with a soft flame before adding the white. No more tiny bubbles.
