Thank you everyone for the examples that you have pictured and explanations of differences. This has been a very informative thread.
If you continue to use the batting, At least wrap the rods in several thicknesses to prevent breakage as well as stuffing around it. I discovered that saving my plastic bags (green suggestion) that stuffing them in packages for shipping is wonderful. I had to stuff packages to go to overseas for two years and it was wonderful for holding things in place. Also got rid of all those bags that I save.
