Flashback arrestors are a must have for any torch. If your oxy tank goes empty it may suck your flame into the torch, even on surface mix torches.
I use a foot peddle to control the outer fire on my Mirage so I have the FBA's at the regs because I have hose near the ground, about 1 inch off the ground. If I drop a large piece or marble it could burn the through the hose. FBA's at the torch would do nothing to stop the flame from traveling to the tanks.
I also use the all in one FBA's/QD's from Sundance on two of my torches and a combination of standard FBA's coupled with QD's on another torch.
