Hydrochloric acid soak (10%) for a few minutes will usually clear the zinc off of the surface. The Works is HCl.

Whink Rust and Stain remover contains HydroFluoric acid - the same stuff that's used to etch glass. It's not to be used with bare hands or in non-ventilated areas. Pretty toxic stuff.

These are both corrosive materials (acids). Caustic materials are alkaline, not acidic.
