A lot of times Lampworking rods where new rods have been cut have micro fractures in the glass resulting in scum (Micro bubbles). I used to fuse a lot of my shorts together, but have noticed over the years that when you come to the connection it fall off a lot of the time due to thermal shock because of the scum on the ends from being nipped or worse yet explodes with shards of glass sometimes getting on myself. By using one of my rod holders you are actually increasing your safety, and better yet not introducing scum into your customers beads.
