Default 2 torches with one propane tank. Hose is cut

Ok, so I just ordered a little smith jeweler's torch and read up to find that I need a "y connector" with valves.

So I was about to purchase this connector
http://store.cyberweld.com/webrycow....7fkaAsqD8P8HAQ

when I realized that my hose is cut at the end to fit my torch

Do I need to buy a new propane hose that has a screw on end? Is there an adapter I can buy? Help?

Thank you

Yes that works at the tank and regulator so to use it you probably need more hose if the reach is a problem. No need to hack the end off the new torch.

I have that same fitting but threaded for oxyegen and have my hand torch on the natural gas and my Bobcat on the propane but they share an Oxygen tank.

Is your propane in your workshop close enough for the hand torch hose? If so the splitter with the valves is perfect. each hose independent with an independent valve is the way to go.

My propane tank is outside along with the regulator and I have a long hose going through a hole in the house to the torch.

The hose is already cut on one end to fit my scorpion lampworking torch. That's what confused me. I need the b fitting on the hose to connect to the y connector with with valves right? Then I would need another hose with the b fitting to connect to the y with valves and then a cut end to connect to my torch right?

I'm not good at explaining.

You can use the Y and not cut any more hoses you just will need another hose and a 2 ended male hose extension fitting.

I kind of frown on cutting a hose, I had to for my bobcat but wont for my mini torch that has like a Kevlar coated surgical tube for a hose.

Your explanation is fine. Let me look up some part numbers.
Meanwhile, you can add a B fitting end to your long hose so you can attach the Y adapter. You will need a hose to connect from the Y adapter to the Y splitter for your Scorpion. I don't know the configuration of your Little Smith torch, I believe that torch is pre-mix, so if you don't have flashback arrestors/firechecks on your Scorpion, you surely will need them for the Little Smith.

(I realize you are probably using oxygen concentrator(s), but I am including oxygen part numbers for completeness.)

OK, off to find part numbers.
Also, look here for less expensive Y connectors:
http://www.nationwideindustrialsuppl...ot-connections

Edit to add part numbers --

First, for your long hoses:
if you have 1/4" hose, use parts 40-B (oxygen) and 41-B (gas)
id you have 3/16" hose, use parts 40 (oxygen) and 41 (gas)
These have a barb on one end and a male B fitting on the other.

40: http://www.nationwideindustrialsuppl...aptors/312-40/

41: (Need to find a vendor)

40-B: http://www.nationwideindustrialsuppl...tors/312-40-B/

41-B: http://www.nationwideindustrialsuppl...tors/312-41-B/

To go from the Y adapter to your Scorpion Y splitter, you can use these:

Flashback arrestor hose adapter: http://www.howacoglass.com/torches.html
or
Pigtail adaptor to fit barbed torch ends: http://artistryinglass.on.ca/-PIGTAI...ORCH-ENDS.html

In my opinion, you should get rid of those automotive hose clamps and get some Western Enterprises hose clamps (also you will need some for the barb to B fittings):

http://www.nationwideindustrialsuppl...12-502-218139/

or, if you can find them, you can get the 312-501 size, but those are out of stock at this particular vendor.

Here is another source for fittings:
https://weldingsupply.com/cgi-bin/br...p.pl?UNDEF:800

Edit 2

So, I've been thinking about my statement about flashback arrestors. Perhaps any flashback damage would be relatively minimal. With an oxygen concentrator, there is no storage and limited output capacity, and I doubt whether people use check valves or flashback arrestors with oxygen concentrators due to the pressure loss. While the oxygen concentrator probably won't push the combustible mixture back through the propane hose, it is probably safest to use one on the fuel hose.

Thank you so much for your in depth reply. This is exactly what I needed.

I only have one more question. I was looking at the less expensive y connector from nationwideindustrial supply. I see three different connectors for fuel and I'm not clear on the differences between them. I have a 1/4" hose if that makes a difference.

Good question! I have no answer, only a guess.

The Western Enterprises catalog lists only part #112 and not part #112-SP.
My guess is the -SP is some kind of special order that the vendor had with a limited number at the lower price.

The only disadvantage to ordering the lower priced one that I can see is that if they are no longer in stock, then either the vendor will ship the order without the -SP part and you'll have to order it again, or the order will be delayed while the vendor notifies you and asks if a substitute is acceptable.

The hose doesn't make a difference for that item.

In case it matters, my last order from Nationwide Industrial Supply came from California. I'm located in California, so maybe there are local warehouses.

A related guess is that the vendor bought a bulk order of gas Y connectors. The gas and oxygen Y connectors are usually sold separately in clamshell packaging. The -SP model might come without the clamshell packaging.

Ok, as long as the hose doesn't make a difference. I guess it's all b fittings.

So the y connector for propane
https://www.nationwideindustrialsupp...part_id=192250

the barbed fittings for the cut portion of my hose, so it will fit in the y connector
http://www.nationwideindustrialsuppl...tors/312-41-B/

Hose clamps
https://www.nationwideindustrialsupp...part_id=218139

and I managed to find some spare hose from when we originally set up my torch that should go from the Y with valves to the torch y. It has one end with a b fitting and one end cut.

Right?

Looks like you have it all figured out. Good luck!

Shipping from Nationwide Industrial was very fast. I was impressed.
