Default Does anyone know how these are made?

I refer to these as lifesavers, how are these made? Is a press used, or a mandrel? If a mandrel is used, are multiples made on a single mandrel?

Big hole mandrel, typically one per mandrel as they loose heat quick and cracked.

Here's another method:
http://www.pipyr.com/chains.html

(This is a link to an $18 tutorial. Not to give too much away, but it is an off-mandrel technique.)

Considering that in the example some have an inner color and an outer color, I would think that these are made on a thick mandrel. Have made similar ones, and indeed, just one on a mandrel. I would think it is also the easiest of the three methods to get a good nice round bead. (I have Pipyr's tutorial and it is great for chain, BTW)

Colour de Verre mold - I was just looking at their FB page. They've got pictures of jewelry made with donut beads & they look like the ones in that picture. Here's the link. Scroll down the page & you'll see it.

https://www.facebook.com/colourdeverre & http://www.colourdeverre.com/inspiration.php

I do think the ones in the picture were made on a big hole mandrel though.

Thanks for all your answers. This is all about curiosity for me, I've looked at the prices for those mandrels, and one would need a lot of them, quite an investment. I've also looked at napkin ring mandrels, ring mandrels, etc. and thought the same thing.

Or you just get one or three, whatever, and do a few at each session.

they're just a disc bead on a big mandrel. no beadroller needed. easy peasy.

Using a solid stainless stainless steel 1/4 OD mandrel works well for making large hole beads. Have made a number using boro glass.

I've made thousands. Literally. I use stainless tubing. No need for a mold or roller. I make 2 on a tube except hot colors (yellow, orange, red, pink) and also Bullseye. The hot colors crack unless you make the hot color your second one so it doesn't get too cold. : )

^this. no need for a press or roller, i would think that would more of a hassle. Just lay down a good foot print or your holes will be a mess. I make multiple on a mandrel a lot if they are small like this.

And you can get some brake line for cars, it's 1/4 inch and stainless, would be cheaper than mandrels.
