It will be difficult to find a glass shield. One of the suppliers (Frantz, Arrow Springs, Sundance) used to have the glass shields, but I cannot find the listing anymore.

The shields on the Phillips site are acrylic (and half the price of the glass shields). I heard that Phillips has stopped offering the shields in glass, but they did not answer when I wrote to them to ask about this. The Phillips shields come in 6" x 6", 12" x 12" and 18" x 24".

There is a seller on eBay that offers the 6" x 6" acrylic sheets. The list price is the same as Phillips, but that seller takes "best offers". When the seller still had glass shields, I submitted an offer for 20% off two sheets, and it was accepted.

I'll continue to look for the glass shields in case someone still has them in stock, but I don't think I'll find them.

Blue Moon might have glass - I think. In Austin, TX.

That glass is not smooth on one side. I have some and it's a bit bumpy and wavy. For that price (super inexpensive!) it might be worth it to flat lap it. Or it might not. That's what I was going to do but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Arrow Springs still advertises glass dydinium plates (4-1/4" X 5" and 6-1/2" x 6-1/2").
http://www.arrowsprings.com/html/eyewear.html

Just for comparison: 4-1/4" x 5" - $125 (glass), 6-1/2" x 6-1/2" - $200 (glass)
6" x 6" acrylic - $100
12" x 12" acrylic - $400
18" x 24" acrylic - $1200

I know Blue Moon has the glass to fit your shield cuz he sent it to me to try with the shield but I found it too dark. Apparently that's all he could get was the darker glass. I'd certainly try him ...that's where I purchased the shield. Good luck.

Schott does not produce the glass any longer and phillips did not order the correct amount of plates for those beautiful glass shields... you will not find the plate glass any longer. Here is the problem. The acrylic plates are very DARK purple. I mean D A R K! Its close to working with a shade 3! We are all stuck for many years until the stockpile of lens material used for their eye protection runs out. Dont hold your breath. It is not practical for them to order a batch presently, as it costs hundreds of thousands. No one needs that in plate stock....

This went away around the same time they stopped production on our required gobs of S 8 glass. If you have 30,000.00 that could be batched.

We are not schott's bread and butter. The products we buy from them were pruned from standard production, and could be in danger of disappearing off the market. Everyone wonders why we stockpile the good stuff.

When you select your eyewear be sure to get the ace 202 glass didy lens instead of the new dark purple acrylic. Now whats sad is the poor new guys just starting out with soft glass will buy these and wonder why it is difficult to see fine detail work. There is a lot of new eye protection out there that students bring to show me and it is not so good. UV and IR protection on some of it I seriously question.

AUR92 or ACE202 glass didy = the best in my opinion.

I found another source advertising plate glass shields:

Litton Engineering

Update:

Arrow Springs no longer has these in stock. (Actually, they said they had one of the smaller size left.)

Litton Engineering is a distributor for Phillips, so they no longer have these, either.
