Default Vent hood distance?

How many inches should there be between the top of the work surface and the bottom of my vent hood? Isn't it 30 inches? Measuring for ductwork...
Thanks,
Amanda

It should be as low as practical (just high enough you don't bump your head on it)... There is no "set" parameter.... Higher makes it less effient for capture....
