Default How do You Pronounce...

Ok... I was told I don't know how to pronounce "Dichroic" (or is supposed to be dichromic?[dahy-kroh-mik]) and "Effetre" (old Morette)... Maybe I can't even spell it (them)... Dang.......

Also check this site ( I know its a sales site) for some really cool color examples of "Effetre" glass if you have a mystery rod to identify....

EDIT:...

It's definitely die-crow-ick.

I used to say "eff-et-trah" because window en français es "fenêtre" and I thought glass = window. I've heard it "eff-uh-trey" however when I got into the world of actual verbal communication with glassers.

And on dichroic, the emphasis is on the 'crow' syllable. With Effetre, the emphasis is on the 'eff' syllable.

Effetre is Italian so it should be pronounced aye-FAY-tray. Little roll on the r.

I've always said "eh-FEH-treh". I don't really know what the proper Italian pronunciation would be, so that works for me.

With "die-KROW-ik, I don't know what kind of annotation to use to indicate that the "KROW-ik" is not really two, strong, distinct syllables, but that the last little "ik" is almost swallowed. At least that's how I say it.

This is always how I have had heard it and said it. Spanish pronunciation is very similar to Italian and this makes sense to me. However, no one will die if we say it wrong.

Funny thing, when I first started lampworking I only saw words on line and I called a mandrel MAN drel (as in the singer) I still have to catch myself. However, the first time I got together with other bead makers they died laughing at how I said it. We have a city named Milan here near us and when I moved here I thought "MA lan" and it is actually "MYlan" Funny how when we don't hear someone else say it, our brain automatically assumes what it should sound like. I do say DYE KRO ick and EFF rety. I think I say dichroic properly, I doubt that I say efferete properly.

No, I am not sure. I am not familiar with all of Lampwork Law. However, I feel confident that should anyone here die because of Pronunciation Police Brurality, Karmageddon will lay the smack down on their butts. Please, carry on with your pronunciating selves.
