Woodworking Projects for Beadmakers
Any ideas for woodworking projects? I have some nice ash that I'd like to use up, and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about things I could make. I thought of a mandrel rack for drying... any other ideas?
I imagine I'm going to want some sort of organizer for my glass rods. Has anyone ever seen these made of wood?

What size stock?, Can you resaw? Plane? Save the ash for something nice use a crap 2x4 or 4x4 end for a drying rack
Simple box. 2" deep with 1/2 lap joints on dividers for bead display (little cubbies) dado out front and back for a solid back and a glass front
Small display stands, with a piece of brass filler rod to hold up the bead(s)

I like the idea of making displays... duh... didn't think of this. I'll need some displays in the future, so this seems like a good way to use the wood. I'll primarily be selling earrings and necklaces/pendants. I thought about making a glass topped display box, but I don't have a router, which seems necessary to hold the glass...

You don't need a router, you can cut the grove for the glass with a table saw/Radial arm saw before you assemble the pieces

Fence rails cut into 13 in sections and then stacked on top of each other.

You can rabbet the edges of the top of the box for the glass to sit in, if you have a table saw and a dado blade set. Even without the dado set you can do it, you just have to move your fence back a tiny bit after the first cut on all parts to make the cut a little wider. Or, even just one cut right on the edge of each piece would give you a 3mm bearing on all sides for your glass... I'd take it to at least two blade widths though, just to be sure..
