Stamping letters into beads?
I have a friend whose sister lost her pregnancy at 22 weeks yesterday. As expected, the whole family is devastated.
So my friend asked me today if I could make beads with the letters of the baby's name stamped into them. I've kinda pondered it before, but now I need to ask. What's the best way to go about this? Brass letters? Bending an old mandrel into shape? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I think you could use tiny letters punched out of copper. So sad for them.

I made one stamping letters from a punch set I bought at Harbor Freight too.
Not a great photo, sorry, but I have believe stamped in the long one.
I'm thinking that maybe if you had a base encased with a colored transparent, then stamped, the letters might stand out more?

There's also Murrini Cane or Alphabet stamps for leather.
May your friend find peace.

Tandy makes stamps for leather that work well on glass.

the Tandy stamps may be a little big for detail stuff,
FMG has several small stamp sets that should work.

Whatever tools you use to stamp, here's advice on staining the beads, which will make the letters stand out http://www.listen-up.org/kitty/beads/tea/tea.htm
I was kind of picturing a hospital baby bracelet, with each letter on a separate bead, and pink or blue spacers beads between. I don't think they do that in hospitals anymore, but my husband has his; it has his last name, A--the A because he was the first born of twins.

Thanks all. I got some metal stamps and I'll try some of those tea staining techniques with them

Encasing stringer in clear makes it easier to write (cursive) the letters stay separated more

Doggone it! I knew that and did that, then forgot that! Writing it on my forehead (mentally anyway) so I don't forget to go pull more encased stringer.

I ended up going and getting a letter stamp set from Ace Hardware and it worked perfectly for what I wanted it for.
