Default Who has the best price on System 96 frit?

Not sure where else to put this, so thought this was the best place to ask.

I've gotten into doing fused frit relief molds using Spectrum frit. I bought quite a few bottles in Vegas after taking a class (from the instructor after classes were done). Now I want to buy more and can't seem to find what I'm looking for online for some reason, other than Amazon. I figure there must be a better source...

Thought I'd see who everyone buys from, if you don't mind sharing your source.

Uroboros has a "Specials" section on their website. There isn't much there right now (only one variety of System 96 frit), but it might be good to check back from time to time.

They have some two-toned frit that I'd like to try sometime. I'm not sure if Spectrum makes that.

Uroboros always seems to have specials on COE90 frit. I'm not sure why, since they don't seem to be discontinuing their COE90 line.

Also, if you don't mind working with COE90, the Bullseye Resource Center in Emeryville has frit 50% off two times a year (with no minimum purchase). (If you purchase $1000 it used to be 50% off at anytime, but they may have raised that to $1200.) If you get on their mailing list, they'll send you emails and/or postcards announcing the events (in the summer and in the winter).

Does it have to be System 96? Olympic Color Rods has frequent overstock sales on glass frit and powder in 96 COE. Here's a link:http://www.glasscolor.com/home/clearance.aspx

Thanks for the responses!

In terms of does it have to be System 96, well.... no - BUT - I already have about 20+ jars of System 96, and I know I can't mix frits such as Bullseye since it's a different COE (at for the projects I'm doing). So I'm trying to stick with what I have to make life easier on myself.

So, does anyone know if the 96 COE frit at OCR would play nicely with the System 96? I know sometimes even the same COE's can have issues in glass projects!

And after lampworking for 8 years and just now dipping my toe in the fusing/slumping waters, can I just say OMG - sheet glass can be really freakin' expensive!!!

I've looked up some Bullseye prices, and they are over 40% off the MRSP, and I don't see how anyone can compete with that, except with a bulk discount from the manufacturer! The prices for COE 96 are in the same range as for COE 90.

I can't speak from experience with mixing COE 96, but as far as I know, System 96 is compatible glass from the US manufacturers, Spectrum and Uroboros. The glass at Olympic Color Rods is Reichenbach, so if you have torch worked Reichenbach with other COE 96 rods, that should be an indication. However, Bullseye has some colors in rod form that are not guaranteed to be compatible with sheet form glass, so maybe that fact is an indication that it some experimention may be necessary.

Thanks for the tip about Howaco!

As for the Reichenbach, I've never used it with anything but itself. I've bought some of their pretty pinks and purples, but only used them with each other. All the rest of my rod glass is 104, and that's defintiely what I'm most familiar with for lampworking.

Isn't it funny how you finally get to where you pretty much know which glasses play nice with each other in one COE/form, and then have to start all over again when you try a new medium.

I'm currently just starting to play with boro AND with sheet glass AND with 96 frit - and I also bought some Bullseye sheet glass. I've come to the realization that I'm in trouble!!!

I use Uroboros (System96) rods with Reichenbach and Kugler all the time (I only use 96 at home) and haven't had any issues at all. I switched over to 96COE in 2006, so there's been plenty of time gone by for any issues to pop up. I don't fuse, though, but, in theory, it should be the same.

Thanks, Shawnette! That's great to know. I thought you used 96, and was sorta hoping you would pop in on this thread! : )
