Monarae, it is a lifetime experience, most folks completely recharge their muse and learn so much. It is more a family every year! There is lots of car pooling, lodging sharing and such going on to make it more affordable.
For the fee you get 4 days of torch classes (6) with top-notch instructors, demos all day, hot shop opportunities, so much for really much less than some events when you add classes!
I am with Melanie, just do it! Use the link below to get to Glass Stock West page and read all about it. Classes still open are posted at very bottom of page.
Hope to see you there!

Okay, I'm remembering something...if I go, I have to do a demo? Where's that thread?
Also, I checked out the available classes. What I really want is soft glass and the only ones available that I would like are Deb's sculpture and beginning marbles, and I'm not really into marbles, just the design techniques. Other class I'd love is Hanna's seed beads, Lea's rope, pmc 1 and 2, silver soldering and enameling. But if I'm taking all those classes, how do I see the demos? I'd love to watch Moertel.
Thanks for the responses all. I sure would love to see you all.
Mona

Mona, there are a lot of classes already full with 75 people already. Sounds like you could get some nice classes anyway....the demos are first thing Thurs morning (everyone does one, see thread on demo fears by Karen on here...it will help!) and then at night you can see Melanie, the rest of the staff and I demo too. My sculpture class still has a couple spots I think.
You get 3 torch and 3 non-torch plus demos and open torches every night (no charge for demos or open torch either....only extra fees are listed next to classes, like PMC and are VERY minimal!). I do have 3 other people looking at classes right now so if you want those classes above please PM me asap and we'll get you signed up! I will take you in order of PM or email.
Please read all the info on the page and then send me a PM with phone # asap.
Looking forward to seeing you there...you will have a BLAST!
hugs, deb

Mona, I don't know how Eugene's set up is, but last year 1 of my demo classes ended early so I was just walking around seeing what everyone else was doing. Turned out I walked into Deb's Fish class. She just got done doing the hummingbird & was about to start the fish. & for some reason there was an open spot in the class.
Deb was SO sweet & allowed me to sit in for the rest of the class. I can tell you that her class was the highlight for me last year! If you can get into one of Deb's classes, you won't regret it. She's a phenomenal teacher with a heart of gold. She sat behind me, cheering me on the whole time. & I have to tell you, my whole body was shaking cause I was so nervous! I had never attempted a fish before that night. When my roomies (many of whom had been in the class with me) & I got back to the house later that night, we were giggling like little girls that we made fish!!
The next night, or maybe it was the same night (CRS), we were all making MORE fish at open torch & teaching some of the others that weren't in the class how to do it. It's really a wonderful experience, with lots of giving people eager to share their talent. There's so much to be learned, not just IN the classes themselves.
I couldn't take Deb's blown boro shells class cause it conflicts with a class I'm teaching so she promised to demo it for me at night.....& I'm going to hold her to it! That's just the kind of person she is. You won't regret it if you go.
I forgot who said it, but it really sums it up. It's like camp with glass.

Colorado contingent is growing ~ We have 7 coming to Glass Stock! Whoot!
Just to enforce ~ everyone shares. It doesn't matter what class you are in as you will learn so much. If you didn't get in a class, ask. I don't think that there is a teacher there that would not plop right down at a torch and show you.
This will be my third year and I still shake during my demo.... So how badly will I shake at night time demo.... not to mention my class
Glass Stock is really a life changing event ~ learning, sharing, and new glassy friends.... And it's all because of Deb! All her hard work and her staff...

Well, I guess the decision has been made for me...by my car. $1000 bill for what should have been a few hundred. I'm sorry I'll miss it...again. This time I'll apply early and apply for a scholarship. Thanks for everyone's encouragement.

If anyone still needs a place to stay, I found a pretty decent, and cheap, motel that's not too far (but you will need a car) called "The Broadway Inn"; www.eugenebroadwayinn.com - it's older but has been remodeled and had very good reviews - some from earlier this year. It's also not far from the Mazet Bros wonder "Imagine Gallery" that's in downtown Eugene.

What else is there nearby? Anyone know? A few of us are getting in a couple of days early (unfortunately not in time for the flame off ) & would love to know what other not to be missed things there are to do. Or glass places to see.

You might ask Josh about things in Eugene - but the coast is only ~ 1 hr away to Florence and it's a fun place with little shops down by the bay... I'm trying to get away a day or two early and stay at the beach for a day or two before coming to Eugene.

There may still be room in Mi Casita guesthouse. I posted a link earlier in this thread--or you can go to craigslist in Eugene and look for Mi Casita under rooms for rent. Private rooms are $35 per night and semi-private is $30. The owner calls it something like a youth hostel without the youth. Should be easy walking distance to GS.

Same here
Unexpected car repair as well as the necessity for a massive financial support for my parents mean that I had to cancel Glass Stock
Wishing you all heaps of fun. I know you'll all have a blast!
Hope to be able to join you next year.

Hi Elyn- Thanks for the info on Mi Casita, I am planning to stay there too! Maybe we can walk to Glass Stock together. I'm wondering how bad it'll be walking back at night. We'll probably be really tired.
So sorry to hear about everyone's car problems. My car always seems to go out at the worst possible time, but I guess there never is a good time for car problems. I drive an old car, so people aren't surprised when I have problems. I'm planning to take Amtrak up from California so I don't have to worry about having to get towed back home. I've already had to get towed back home twice in the last few weeks.

Hi Elyn, thanks for the info! We also have room in the hostel where some of the staff are staying. If interested in staying in the big hostel house (6 staying there already, room for 4 more) please PM me and I will give you John's email.
Judith, I was looking forward to meeting you, maybe next year? Hugs!
Brenda, no worries...so many folks leaving about the same time I will make sure one of "my boyz" walks you ladies back....they love it anyway....makes them feel good too
Sometimes when I read about car trouble it makes me feel a little better about being car-less for a year and a half. I get around just great with friends, buses, trains and planes. And with the price of owning one and gas, mass transit is cheaper, easier on the environment and less worry. Besides, Amtrack is a fun way to travel and see the sights, my kids and I always liked traveling that way and I still do I hope to be able to get a car soon but the more I read about car trouble the more I need to save to get a decent one!
See you all soon! hugs, deb

Thanks Melody! I was talking to Josh about Meet and Greet Wed night, we are trying to have a gathering at his gallery that night but we will also have Hot SHop demos going on at school from 6-10, we booked SO many hot shop classes that we had to put the girls & boys blowing demos on Wed night now.
I am thinking maybe we could do an open day at Josh's gallery, the staff meeting is always Wed at 6, we need to make it 5 this year for Hot Shop start. So lets think about having the meet and greet start at Josh's about 2pm or so...that way I can get over there for a little while and get back for my staff meeting? We will finish Meet and Greet at the glass school from 6-10. I am waiting to hear back from Josh about it, will confirm plans and post back to everyone.
Also, updates like this will be in your monthly newsletters.

Ok, everyone, supplies are all ordered, rents/deposits all paid, hot shop checks coming in for EGS (PLEASE send them if you forgot, to me, I am forwarding them in a packet) and everyone will be getting their schedules sometime this next week. We had a gal with family emergency who was going to send them, we are getting them out as soon as we can. They will also be at the event site for your goddie bags.
I am trying to reach Rae Campbell, if you know her or her email, PM me asap.
Big hugs and a wooohooo!~ debs
