Dichroic extract
Anyone use it? I just bought some, and I'm wondering how long it will take me to get the nerve to open it.

I have used it. Hmmm, maybe I should say I tried to use it. I partially slumped some 006 Eff super clear so that it would have a flat bottom, then used some hair spray to get the dichro extract to stick. Meh? No such a hot solution.
I have read that the stuff is hard to p/u with a hot bead from a marver, so thought my solution might be better, but it's not.
Now I just look at it.

I use it in bead painting, and it works pretty well. It really needs to be a thin layer or it looks hazy. I use it in my peacock beads, some fireworks and a few others here and there since it is pretty expensive.

I have dichroic frit that I love. Maybe I should just stick with that then? The extract costs a lot. but they claim inside each bottle is equal to 1/8th sheet of dichro.

If I did fusing, I would use it. Definitely! With lampwork I would be too afraid of burning it up. But if I ever got the nerve to try it with a torch, it would have to be the Hothead. That is based on my past experience with dichroic glass. Too hot with the flame settings and you get scummy. I did much better with the HH than with my Bobcat.

Squeegee oil works well for adhering it(your slumped rods), wait until it dries before torching. It may catch fire when you first put it in flame, but it wont harm anything, and burns off quickly.

hhmm. Never heard of squeegee oil. I was thinking of applying it as I would Mica, or enamel. I'd love to see what someone as done with it.
I know Tanya Veight (I'm sure I just butchered her name) uses it in fusing. I'll have to go look at her stuff. Then I'll come correct her name.

Extract comes in all different colors, not just silver the way the dichro on metal does, so it is way more interesting to me.

I have a couple of beads I have used it in listed here...
fireworks...

They are hand painted using dichroic extract.
Squeegee Oil should work a lot better than hair spray to hold it, I have never tried it on the rods, but it is what I use for dichroic extract in my bead painting.

there is a glass craft video talking about it on youtubw, they say use liquid stringer and water or something to apply the dichro, the title of the video was called something close to "dichro extract with berzerker" its a tad different but im sure the liquid stringer stuff still works the same,
