Default My beads are cracking

I recently bought a batch of cim clear. and almost all the beads I've made using it have cracked. I can't figure out anything else that they have in common. Has anyone else had trouble with this glass and compatibility or is it something else I'm doing. I had heard this was a good clear that's why I bought it.

Not sure where you heard it was good...it was. Used to be all I used, but something has changed to where most rods just bubbles the instant it is warm. I still do use for some things..no cracking issues though.

What are you encasing?

I have been encasing different things some wavy beads with yellow filigrana, some flower beads with rubino oro on a black base, some DH eko, some DH gia iris orange. the only thing they seem to have in common is the clear. Is there a way to test the compatibly?

Sorry about your beads! With that many cracking, I wouldn't bother with a compatibility test. That is, if none of the other beads are cracking when you don't use it.

You might try using it for a base or for stringers, and check if that works out. It would be a shame to waste it.

Thanks for the response. I think I'll probably just use it for puntys I'm afraid to use it for anything else. I've just come across another thread with lots of people saying it scuzes up for them really bad. It's a shame I didn't really have any problems with it bubbling.

Try using it with only CiM.

Thank you Lisi. I hadn't thought of that. I also was thinking it would be good for making clear hollows something I want to do anyways. Or clear beads with frit. It won't go to waste.

Hey Eileen,

I use messy clear for most things because I trust its compatibility. It works great with filigranas where lauscha(the old stuff) had cracking. Encasing silver glass can be problematic. It was suggested to me to use DH Zephyr or Aether for those. I posted a blog about pickling with the original Frantz tutorial and some of my edits and other links. Here is the post http://www.geneabeads.blogspot.com/2...r-crystal.html I use messy clear for my bead-inside-a-bead-hollows and it works great! You should be ok using frit with the clear as well. Remember the 5% rule though since the frit is most likely 96 and the glass is 104. If you encase a 104 bead with 96 frit you may also experience cracking. Do a few test beads and anneal them to test breakage. After you get a success try doing your other designs. Hope that helps! xo Genea
