Default Boro newbie: picked a couple of base colors, so now what frit colors?

I played with boro a loooong time ago, and remember that I got some nice beads with a core of clear, NS butterscotch over that, and NS double amber purple frit. I think once I used GA silver strike 5 in the same way, as the base over a clear core, and then NS DAP on top of all. So I picked out some clear in 3mm and 6mm diameters, base colors in rod and frit, NS butterscotch and GA silver strike 5. Also, the double amber purple in rod and frit for the overlayering color on the bases.

What other rod colors and frit colors can go over these base colors I picked out? I chose them because they are nice neutral pale tan/grey stone-like colors. Do they do anything unusual when other colors are worked on top of them?

Soft glass has been my thing exclusively for 7 years, so with boro I'm going to be like a fish out of water! I need all the help I can get, so I thought I would start with simple frit beads.

Here's that thread from way back when I posted my first boro beads, and in there is the "recipe" that I used to make the rust/beige swirled one. YAY, I wanted to try that again!!

Also, there are the ones where I used a few blues and got NOT blue at all!

The beads were actually made in 2005, yep, that long ago.

Lisi, I would think you can put ANY frit over those bases of Silver Strike and Butterscotch.
They are great neutrals. You could try Blue Moon or any of the silver glasses. Black rods play nice with DAP dots and clear encased. DAP is fantastic over reds like pomegranate or Elvis.

Thank you Lana! I forgot that DAP can opacify in a really nice way over a transparent base. I'll have to try that! I still have some frit and a few rods. I sold most of my boro stash when I really needed $$. Wish I hung onto it, oh well!

I'm getting ready to stock the studio full up with boro supplies along with a new torch set-up. But since it's so expensive, I really don't want to buy colors I'm not going to use. For instance, I already know I'm not going to like any of the "crayon" colors. Blech!

Make sure you get Loki's Lipstick!!!!
I love it more than any amber purple and it does different things on different bases.
