I would imagine you would also need to put a farely thick base color to give the mesh some depth. When I try I will put a mound of glass before laying down the mesh, then when you pull the edges hopefully I'll get deeper protrusions???????????????
It will be fun trying though.

I got it to work as well, but of course I wanted to make a lentil and then pressed it and it kind of messed it up. I haven't figured out how to squish it through the mesh and press the bead. Any ideas??

sorry for the really bad pic!!!

You can buy copper mesh at Michael's. They have copper and brass in rolls and in that area they have copper mesh. They have different sizes, some very fine like used to make sifters for glazes and some with holes about 1/8 inch. I have a bunch, it's not expensive.

Thanks guys,
I used the tips on that everybody gave, so it is not mine to hog.

I have a base bead of black, then add on one side along the length of the bead a couple of stripes of ivory dont melt it all down. Heat the ivory enough so that the mesh will stick. I used a 3cm long piece of mesh and pre-bend it to go over the ivory, then add your blob of clear glass ontop of the mesh, heat the clear without melting away the extra coper wich is sticking out. When it is nice and soft pull on the copper, heat more, pull the copper on the other side. add more glass as desired and squeeze the glass.
If you don't come right with my instruction just ask.

The color on the first bead is Khaos and the other one has terra in it.

bye now!
Astrid

I tried this last night with some results. The hard thing is what to do with the terribly misshapen bead after you pull on the mesh. lol

You have to pull on all sides to get good blobbies. Heat it up, and it has to be pretty well heated, pull on the mesh, do the other side. Then you end up with a blob of glass on the mandrel that does not look so good. Except the one clear side with the mess on it.

Astrid figured out what to do with it pretty good!

I got it at Michael's. They sell rolls of copper to do repousse' and stuff. They have the copper mesh in the same area. I think it's about 1/8th of an inch. Maybe it's 1/4. You can stretch it to make the holes bigger.
