What??? I know nothing about Boro! You mean with boro you don't have to deal with bead release, or it burns off or WHAT? Explain yourself, please?
I have stuck beads (hangs head in shame)

Mitz... On offmandrel work there is no bead-release used. You work right off the rod.

You will still have bead release if you make beads on a mandrel.

smiley: I still have a box of poopy beads from my softglass I just can't find the energy to deal with. lol. Yes indeed, I am slowly making the transition to boro only. It's just too..... tooo..... toooooo..... WONDERFUL!

Ohhhh, I get it. Too much gin, sorry.
So is Boro mostly for sculptural work or what? Still sort of trying to get my head around all this. Terminology and all.
Boro is mostly for bigger stuff, right? Because it is more structural, etc? Am I totally off the mark? I am coming from a jewelry background and not a sculpture, glass work background, etc. and I still have a hard time seeing what is up with boro. Sorry.

If you look at the new boro gallery started in this forum, you'll see some offmandrel pendants, but you can make beadst too. Heck you can make anything you want, it's all about your imagination and creativity!

My favorite thing about boro is how you can often get nice outlines around the colors where two colors meet....like outlined frit and such...does that make sense?? like this...you can see little outlines around the frit on the base bead. I like how the colors have so many tones and I love to wear jewelry made with boro beads because one set of beads can pick up so many different colors to match different clothes. And I like the luster you can get...and the transluscence...and...and...and... Now...there are definitely things I have problems with...but that would have to be another thread...

My favorite thing about boro is the colors.
My SECOND favorite thing is - glass goes in flame. No popping rods, no splintering glass flying all over the place and down your cleavage. Just melting glass.....bliss.....

Default These are a few of my favorite things...

My second two are the same as Karen's, but reversed:
1) Being able to blow ornaments and vessels/small vases with a torch!
2) Not popping/cracking most of the time, it breaks my heart to see a nice floral in moretti crack, so boro is sooo much better for that, and
3) the wonderful unpredictability in certain colors, and great range of colors of one rod.
4) the price of boro clear is awesome, cheaper than soft glass.

Which is, unfortunately, offset by the fact that boro colors cost more
than diamonds. It's like torching with rods made from rolexes. Boro glass teaches
you to be frugal and stretch that glass to the last nub.

When the expensive silver glass (Kronos etc) went on sale, everyone was saying
"this glass is pricey, so here's some ways to make it last" - and all us boro
users were like, "been there, done that, yadda, yadda."

Oh, totally. Here's to wasting expensive glass while you try and monkey with it.
Let me know if you want to buy the worlds most expensive plain cobalt blue beads.
I made a bunch of these out of Kronos before I leaned how to work it.
My bad.

No way, Ms.Jojopants!
Not sharing him.

My favorite thing about boro is Brent...
I also like making seahorses. They don't look anything alike, by the way.

Don't MAKE me pull out the Brent-in-duct-tape photos and compare them with a seahorse...

totally...

and don't worry pretty hannah girl.... I don't want him for the same purposes you do.. lol.

He's my boro mentor, but after meeting him, I kind of latched on and feel a longing obligation to harrass him in a way no other can. It's become my destiny.
