Default brass rod mandrel?

can i use brass rod as a mandrel for boro?
with bead release. i was thinking if i ramp down all the way to room temp it would make it even with diff. cooling rates. i cant get the mandrel size i need in steel. i didnt want to have to order it, i got some rod at my local store

no brass would melt and it is a very good heat conductor unlike steel, so it would get very hot to hold. you can get steel in any diameter you want. what are your requirements and i will link you up?

Another issue is melting temperature. Brass 1660 - 1710 F and stainless 2750 F. Brass at a 1000 degrees less would not make for many successful beads, etc.

Small indy hardware stores often have wierd stuff. Worth a look. I went to one locally last weekend, they had stainless rod and tubing in some pretty large sizes.
