Default Off- mandrel acorn

Hi I’m new to lampworking and here . I am wondering if anyone has a tutorial for off-mandrel acorn. Thanks in advance

I used to make a lot of those. These pictured are boro. Basically take the rod you want the acorn to be and make a gather, shape it somewhat. A flattish top, somewhat rounded is good. Take the cap color and either make a gather and heat and smoosh both side together or wind that color on. A marble mold is a quick way to make the cap rounded but a marver will work also. Put on a small gather/blob of the same color and make a loop...or however you like to make loops. I preferred Handy Andy's. Either hold your loop with tweezers or add a punty. Heat the bottom of the acorn, stretch into a point and that's about it.


Oh, just a quick addition that's optional- Frit on the cap (before the loop) gives implied texture, or actual texture if not melted in completely, a tool like a brass fork gives actual texture.
