Default How to silver core beads Tutorial?

I would really like to learn how to do this -- does anyone have some tips? I have not invested in the Jim Moore or Retro Tools machined tools. Any tips on the old fashioned way?

I use this glue:

and use 4 mm mandrels, but drill the holes bigger. If you don't have a drill, then use 5 mm mandrels.

For drilling, I use this materials:

Awesome Tut!!
You can get everything you need at Harbor Freight except the tubing. They have a great deal on a doming block and punch set for 32.99. I also got the pipe cutter, mallet, diamond files and torch there so now I am off to Riogrande to get the tubing. Here is a link to Harbor freight

This is just what I needed. I've received a wonderful pandora bracelet as a gift recently and I have some large whole beads too to wear with it. I was looking for tools to silver line them. I don't want to invest on an expensive tool right now, so it's great to be able to see how it is done with this simple dooming blocks. Thank you again.

I don't believe the price of that Dome and Block set from Harbour Freight. You don't know how lucky you are in the US! I think i'll try the premade cores before I go down that road though. This is from someone who has yet to make a large hole bead but who has drooled. . .

Thanks very much Margriet for sharing your experience and info.
And thanks Evan for an awsome tutorial
And thanks Heidi for starting the thread!

Hi Red,

I am sorry, my English isn't so well. I don't understand your question.

I glue the silver caps in the bead and then they fit on a Pandora, Trollbeads, etc.

It takes 2 per bead, one for each side. Very easy. I use 2 part epoxy and have not had a problem. Just don't use too much, it squishes out and makes a mess. You have to clean with mineral spirits. :0)

Hi Kelly, the cores at allbeads4you costs 0,65 eurocent what is about 1 dollar. You need two cores for one bead.

But when you are interested, write an email to Danielle: info@allbeads4you.nl

She can help you.

Hi Barb!
Do you mind giving us a quick tutorial on how you proceed to silver line the beads with the ready made silver cores? Nothing too labour intensive, just an outline; I can't get my head around it..

Anyone else that wants to chime in?
Thanks!

You can also click the link below for an inexpensive arbor press, and it has a few of the tips that work nice for flaring. Easy on the pocket-book too!

Thanks Melissa! Is this one you use? How does it compare to Jim Moore's bead press besides the price..?
Anyone else ?

This is very similar to the one I use (the one I use doesn't have a wheel on the left). And, using a lathe, my dad made me extra flaring tools for it. From what I hear, the tools that come with it work nicely. The unit is very inexpensive, and works awesome! HTH!
