Question Pandora craze

So I'm trying to understand why people are crazy about pandora beads- what do you do with them except put them on a bracelet.

I'm finally going to learn how to core beads, but just wondering...

thanks for your input/ideas

Personally I think they are a status symbol. Like designer jeans and stuff that is extra expensive just because it has someone's name on it. They are sold in upscale shops and the 'realhousewives' have to have them so the wannabes have to as well.

Well since I sell the less expensive version I'm not sure how much of a status symbol they are. From my experience they appeal to the same types of people that like charm bracelets in that you collect ones that mean something to you. Also, I have had customers that buy them to give as incentives (sales like real estate) or a few of the same bead to give to girlfriends for something special. They can be an affordable gift for people to ask for because you can spend $10 to $100 of dollars depending on what fits your budget.

Maybe it's the same thing as the old fashioned charm bracelet... where each charm had some sort of special meaning to the wearer.

"Here's the one commenorating Hailey's high school graduation."

"And this one is when Ted got his first job."

"And this one is to remember that trip we took to Niagra Falls."

"And this one is for when Ellen was born."

Etc.

Building a piece of jewelry with "life moments" is kind of neat.

I have to admit, I like the individual beads more than the completed bracelets. There is something special about a capped and cored bead! Honestly, I don't understand why anyone would want to buy the real thing when the artisan beads are so much more interesting, beautiful and better made!!

I don't get the appeal... but I'm going with it. I bought a cheapo bracelet from Hobby Lobby to put some of my random beads on, I wore it for about an hour before I decided it was irritating.

I love my big chunky bracelet. Of course the beads are like 22mm instead of the 15mm. It gets noticed all the time.

I like them on necklaces. I wear 1-5 beads on a chain, and I like to be able to change them out to suit my outfit or mood!

I like the necklace idea too. As bracelets, they have to be comletely filled or they annoy the heck out of me.

I have a lot of bracelets.....

My daughter wears my boo boos on a chain and switches them out often. She has recently gotten into giving them with her friends. Just what I need, a 7th grade full of my boo boo beads, lol.

I make my own beads for my bracelet. I've never bought any "real" ones. I make mine large, and I like the hefty weight on my wrist. It also drives me nuts when it's not filled, so I always have it completely jammed with beads! I could seriously punch somebody out with that hand.... lol.

My niece and her best friend -- also both in 7th grade -- think they're very cool, and usually get my seconds...but sometimes I break down and give them the good ones just because that's what aunties do.

It's the versatility, says my DIL. Everybody notices and compliments her bracelet. I've made beads for hers and she buys the spacers. I don't see the craze going away any time soon.

I've had a few designers tell me they love them because they can just slide them onto a design and voila! A few other buyers have commented that they like our handmade beads because the commercial beads do not guarantee that their bracelet is unique. One buyer in particular said she was irritated with co-workers buying the same beads so she switched to independent lampwork artists. Frankly, I enjoy the craze, It has saved my business.

I like wearing just a few lampwork beads on my bracelet. The individual beads don't get lost in the mass and, to me, are more noticable.

Wow, great responses! I can see wearing necklaces, but I can't wear a bracelet that bonks on everything. If you don't have it filled, all the beads hang on the bottom... I just made a few to figure out how to core, starting with copper before spending the $ on silver!

pictures of you favorites... thanks to all!

I bought a Pandora bracelet just over a year ago. Every time I lose 5 pounds I buy a bead to add on to it. It is my way of a small affordable celebration. My plan is to FILL the bracelet. I wear it every single day. It is a tangible reminder of what I have accomplished and it gives me pause for thought if I'm about to cram something in my piehole that would slow down the acquistion of another bead Three other friends on weight loss journeys have also started bracelets to celebrate.

At first I just bought the genuine Pandora beads but their glass ones pale in comparison to those that artists here make. So I started getting my beads from talented LE folk ('cause my beads are burnt turds). So far I have a "Shari Sislonski" a "Karen Hardy" and a "TraciDawn". And let me tell you, it's those beads that get more compliments than the rest.

As of right now I have 16 beads on my bracelet, anticipating by next week I'll be adding 17. I want at least 20

its a collecting thing - momentos of special times, birthdays, anniversaries etc

i had to laugh thought when i overheard a shop assistant telling a woman they would become collectables and appreciate in value (this was the mass made ones not the artisan beads)

pandora are selling them in wood now, so a tiny wooden bead capped in SS is like $50!!

you gotta credit the marketing in that!!

Same here. But I don't wear them on a "Pandora" style chain (find them too thick and not "funky" enough).
I have a couple of different cable wires, twisted silk rope necklaces, skinny leather strings etc. and accessorize the beads/chain depending on my outfit and/or mood.

I wear mine for advertising. It works better than you'd expect. I always run into people that have their own, and they want to admire mine. As soon as they find out I make them myself, and hand them my card, I usually gain a customer out of it. I've had people buy beads right off of my bracelet It's fine until they want to buy the beads I wear from Ginny, Lenora, or Amy

Great feedback here!
I'm finding myself smiling and nodding at a lot of things that people are sharing...
My good friend Marie has been doing quite well with big hole beads.
She lives close to an area that has several shops... and of course, her beads are more beautiful and less expensive than the "namebrand" ones!
