I (think!) I've found the perfect dot poker!
I think I've found *the* perfect tool for poking dots. I was browsing on eBay the other day and came across this. It's technically a nail art pen. The centre part is made of wood, but the ends, which are made of metal, have two different-sized ball-shaped tips. I used it for the 1st time today to make poked dots in my beads & it's fabulous. I think it's also going to come in handy to pick up those super tiny PITA-to-grab-without-dropping-them-all-over-the-place CZs - poke a hole in the bead with one tip, dab a tiny bit of glue on the other tip, pick up the CZ on the flat side, (obviously!) remove the bead from the flame & carefully place it in the hole and ta-da.. you're done (sorta like the idea I've seen before about using a mandrel to do the same thing). I haven't actually tried using it for CZ's yet, but I'll do that tomorrow. And the best part? It's only $1.01 with FREE shipping!
I've just stocked up on another few to have as back-ups. Check them out... a really cheap alternative to more expensive poking tools, and because the ends are ball-shaped, the hole is lovely & round. I realise I'm probably not the 1st person to think of using it for beadmaking, but figured I'd share the link for any other beadmakers who may be interested in checking it out.

Hi Sue, it's actually a tool that is used in embossing card. Good to see it has multiple uses, card embosser, nail art, lamp working.

When I was at the glass show in vegas I saw a tool like that. It had multiple size ball heads that you could change. I dont' remember who had it for sale tho. He was explaining how to use it and what it was to a woman and I was listening in. LOL
I'd like to say he was from Arrow springs but I'm really not sure.
I do have one of these tools from my cardmaking/scrapbooking days .....LOL

I've never done nail art, embossing, cardmaking, etc, so this was *completely* new for me! I just picked it up on a whim whilst purchasing other stuff from the seller as I thought maybe it would be good for poking dots. Not really expecting much for a buck, I was really surprised yesterday when it worked beautifully. Lovely round holes, easy to use and CHEAP (my favourite bit!) 
Anyway, I thought I'd share the link in case there were others out there that hadn't seen them. I bet the one at the glass show was a little more expensive Glassymom? I know I would have bought one from the glass show if I'd seen them, so I'm glad I picked up this cheapie .. does a great job for the price!

Yes, it was 35 or 40 I believe. I was thinking to myself that my dapping tools looked almost the same thing. Going to go pull out my embossing tool to use once I find it! LOL

It's called a stylus, and you can get them in lots of sizes. The bigger ones probably wouldn't be great for poking, so make sure what you're ordering if you're not getting it in person.

I never thought of poking dots with one of those! I've seen people use them in polymer clay but I never thought to try them with glass. Thank you for the tip!

Sweet idean! I have one that I use when I am painting! Never thought about using it for poking dots!

Also used in leatherwork, used to trace a pattern onto the leather before you carve it.

Hmmm.... Not only did I purchase that, but a few other things in general from that store. But it's been nearly 24 hours, and I'm still awaiting a total from them so I can pay for it all! I've had two half-totals, with a couple of items not yet registered, so I hope it's going to be a simple transaction!
I must say it's not a user friendly shop - no cart, and I'm not happy to make 12 separate transactions. We shall see..

I've purchased from them on a number of occasions, and yes, I too find it a bit annoying in that you can't generally combine all the items you purchase from their store in the one invoice. I guess since it's free shipping on most (all?) of their auctions, and English isn't their mother tongue, they've just not bothered setting it up properly. All in all though, I've found them easy enough to deal with. Shipping does sometimes take 2-4 weeks (well, that's to me here in Australia, but I've found that usual with China Post in any event), but apart from that, when I have had a problem (I had something not turn up), they responded very quickly & sent out a replacement very quickly & with no dramas. I'd be surprised if it doesn't go smoothly though, and as I say, they are usually pretty quick to respond if there is an issue.

I've now got three totals, but they don't add up, and one of them is in GBP. I got other craft items, and some things to go in our general store.
Still nothing all day about that, so I'll just sit tight. I just hope it doesn't affect any ebay ratings.

dollar for dollar, I just can't beat a pencil for poking dots, especially for air traps; then you get a nice point on the bottom.
