Default flashback arrestor or check valve?

Hi,
Just hooking up to a 20lb propane tank. I went to my local welding supply and explained what I was doing. I asked for a flashback arrestor. When my husband went to pick the order up they sold my him check valves. I will be using the propane for a little smith torch to solder as well as a mini cc and an oxycon. Anyone know what the difference is, if there is any?

Thanks...can't wait to get started

Cindy
