ABOUT THIS GLASS:
This is a very dark glass that is nice to work in the flame. It is stiff and I used my brass tool alot to help smooth it into itself like I show in the Tutorials.
I don't know if it will encase without problems to help lighten it up. If I do that test I will add the info. It's a very nice glass for sculptural work since it hold details well and has the depth of a dark transparent for visual dimension.

love it

Devardi Color & Melt and Press Tests
Hi Everyone,
I was looking through this Thread and realized there are very detailed posts on glass tests right from the get-go (far beyond these simple color tests I am posting) so I am going to post this information on my site from now on.
You can find it at:
http://www.finefolly.com/devardi-tests.php
Enough of my Thread Hogging! Let's see what you all are up to these days!

My first beads
Here are some beads I have made. These are the ones that have not cracked on me. I'm hoping that when I get a bead kiln that the cracking will stop. I used all Devardi glass. I also got my rod warmer today can't wait to give that a try. I have just started making beads and I love it. Hoping to get a few of the Devardi bead presses to try out. My camera isn't very good nor is the lighting so I hope you can tell what the beads look like. I am always open for suggestion and tips. Steph

Here are three more - the first has SOP Lt. Peach for the base, the second one has SOP Moonstone and the third is SOP Lt. Baby Blue for the base bead. Each one is soft and nice to work with and glass melts/presses in easily. I may make some sets up for bracelets when I get done with tests.

My personal experience with Devardi Glass has been so AWESOME, & UNBELIEVEABLE. Purchased their rod warmer, several months later had an issue with it, thought I'd ask Natasha if others had the same experience, & BAM! response: we will be sending a new one ASAP with Free Shipping, & have now received the new one, no questions asked. Does it get any better - NO.
They have always bent-over-backwards with every purchase I've made. APPLAUD APPLAUD! Oh, did I say THANK YOU DEVARDI GLASS!

Audra, I use a handheld dremel and a diamond bit to clean mine. But I clean several dozen at once lol. You can use a bead reamer also and do it by hand if you don't have a dremel. It will take a bit longer but is easy to do do.
I soak my beads on the mandrel in water then gently twist them off. They then soak in water again to help loosen the bead release and also so you don't breathe any of the dust in. The dust is really bad for you but it isn't toxic when its wet.

I think the least expensive way is to use the shiny pipe cleaners you get at Walmart. I use thin ones for the 1/16" or small mandrels and thicker pipe cleaners for the thick mandrels.
Once my beads on the mandrels are cool, I put them in a glass of water to soak a bit and then use the tip of needle nose pliers to gently twist and work them off the mandrel (fingers on the bead and tip of needle nose pliers on the mandrel) and THEN when they are off the mandrel I use a pipe cleaner and running water to clean the holes out.
When I grow up I want a Dremel and a Diamond Bit!

Let a soft flow of water run over the pipe cleaner as you move it back and forth inside the bead. It washes/scrubs out the bead release in the center. And wetting the mandrel before you start stops any dust from going airborne.

These are your first ones? You did great! and I love your tools. Can you send more photos of them? I'd love to see them better. (maybe my screen is just a bit dark- or I'm old and can't see well... )

AUDRA - that's an awesome pressed set - and what a wonderful color and pattern combination! Way to go! More, more!
I have been working on Teddy Bears when time permits... these are what I worked up last night. Both opaque colors are a dream to work with.
This little Snorkle Bear was made up in D162 Opaque Light Gray
These little Rosebud Ballerina Teddys were made up in D128 Opaque Light Violet

Count Down!!!!!! Can't wait to get my hands on Devardi's Boro. I also have their rod warmer but that mini annealer looks intriguing. That would be so perfect for a beginner starting out. What have you had your eye on.
