Default Studio Setup

I will be setting up a studio in a month or two and was wondering if there was a service that would help me set the torch and ventilation system. I just want to make sure it is safe and done right.

I live in Massachusetts

thanks

It's exciting, isn't it!
Is there a glass shop or other place in your area that offers lampworking classes? They might be able to help you out.

Unfortunately, I can't help you with local resources, but a great book to get you started is James Kervin's book "More Than You Ever Wanted to Know About Glass Beadmaking". It has great sections on the basics of setting up a torch, a studio, ventilation, and important safety considerations. Even if you ultimately decide to have someone else do the work for you, I think you'll find this book to be an invaluable resource - it will help you feel more confident that the work is being done correctly. A number of LE members have posted that their local HVAC 'experts' are sometimes clueless when it comes to setting up ventilation that meets our specific needs, for example, or have made unsafe/dangerous recommendations, such as attempting to claim it's ok to keep a BBQ propane tank indoors.

Other good resources are:

http://www.artglassanswers.com/ Has a wealth of safety and studio set-up info as well as excellent info on ventilation

http://mikeaurelius.wordpress.com/ventilation-primer/ Excellent source for understanding how to design a ventilation system for glassworking

Good luck setting up your studio!

Linda
