Oh Boy that can be a tough order.
Black is one of my main colors I use in my pendant work.
My favorite for years was black violet, for backing and bail making,
it was soft enough to work fast and easy, I liked the consistency.
Then it got bubblie. They stopped making decent black violet, I still
have about 3 pounds of the crap, so I went to Jet. Jet is stiffer than
Black violet, but I had good luck with it not having so much air in it,
I hate a color that must be babied not to boil and "devit", but some
of the black glass I have just will boil no matter what you do.
The last 2 pounds of the Jet I got from the only place I ever order from
(ABR) now the jet is getting air bubbles in it. Crap. I have tried all the others,
just don't like them.
I know glass is made in big batches, and there is some fluxuation in
what results, but I sure wish they would start making the good Jet Black
that I had come to love.
I never ever buy odds or seconds of any glass.

Onyx is my fave black, too, it's very stable and hard to scum up, but it can water down a bit, so you have to lay down a reasonable amount. Just remember to use lots of oxygen when working with whatever black you choose, reduction or even a neutral flame can wreak havoc with black or dark blues such as obsidian or turbo cobalt. Such colours are usually higly saturated with oxides ... make that flame hissssss ... the rest is horses for courses ... there are applications for stiffer or softer blacks ... Onyx is quite soft and easy to work with

I use mostly jet black now, but I agree that a lot of it has been bubbly lately. They need to work on the quality control.

Ask 5 people and you will get 5 answers.
Used to be a lot of people liked GA Black Violet..
Now my last order was a little Bubbly
Then ordered NS Jet and some was great...
Some was bubbly like Eric said....
Just got to try it all out..
The only black I absolutely hate is the cheap china black.. It is very thin and runny..
Just my 2 cents worth...

I don't know what a bub is, but I have never had any compatablity problems with it..
I'd say it was a bad batch, but then from what I have seen it all is.. LOL

jet is probably the standard answer these days. Mary K....too bad you got some bubbly stuff. i've heard they had a batch that was a little off, that may have got out. i believe it's been corrected in more recent batches though.

Lots of Jet black sells here, but those guys doing upper end things tend to buy LOTS of
GA grape for their black...
Just going by what repeat customers purchase if that helps..

Ladies and Gents, I am happy to say that Paul is reorganizing things to give himself more space to experiment. Yay!
