Default My Soon to be studio..

I have a small corner of the barn (14'X20') that is going to be all mine!!
I am so excited. Here is what I have so far...
New PICS!! ALMOST there.
Starting to migrate the glass

Hot area:

The electrical is in too, it has a dedicated breaker for the Kiln and a seperate breaker for the A/C.
More to come!

yeah, A/C was a must have out there. We got twice the size for the room.
I figure it will still be hot with the exchange rate of the air, but hopefully not as hot.
I have a question for the experts, do I work under the hood or just have the hands and torch in there? DH and I were debating this. The hood is 3 feet deep and my table is 26 inches.
Any help?

I would advise against working under the hood. That is having your head and or shoulders under the hood; hands and torch only. The hood is a capture area and there will be eddy currents under it that will be contaminated...not good. What I would do is add a piece of 3//4" or 2 @ 1/2" plywood that is 36" to 40" wide on top of your table to make it wider and then you are less likely to be under the hood. I often see torch workers crouch over their torches when concentrating on a project.

Hi Tillie!
I live off of hwy 62 between Harrah and Meeker. You are very welcome to stop on by. Warning though, I will pick your brain. lol Especially since I will also be setting up a minor, cricket and hothead, and have never worked on anything besides my hothead.

Ok, so I haven't installed the minor, or cricket. (I am very intimidated by the process) but here are new pictures of the mostly finished studio!
The work area- I added the baffle to help increase the efficiency of the ventilation. You can see the kiln peeking around the edge. That's where it lives.

Vent/hood- Not a great picture of it, but it gives you an idea. The duct runs above and directly out of the building. The make up air comes in from behind.

Glass- Wow, after looking at how much glass everyone else has, it isn't that impressive. LOL. I do want to switch to the downspout/fence rail system. The boxes are bullseye glass that I can't seem to use well on a hot head. I am hoping it is better on a dual fuel.

Frit- Not much to see here. I haven't formed the love affair/obsession...yet.

Kiln- My kiln is on a rolling cart (used to be an ultrasound cart) It has a dedicated breaker.

My tools are mostly in a plastic draw behind me.

Lookin good. Don't be intimidated by the dual fuel torches. They are a bit hotter, and more complicated to setup but are much quieter. You will love them very quickly. Go for it.

When you install your torches, you will wonder why you waited so long. I waited also. I had mine for about 4 months before i hooked up my minor. It is heavenly compared to the hothead. You can hear the radio, have conversations. Have a great time and enjoy!!

Thanks, Jen!
I am reading the forums for information on how to install them. It is just a little scary. Especially since the person who is helping me wants to "tweek" everything, instead of going by the information in the forum. LOL. Part of it is that I have a 250 lb propane tank that I am hooking up to, and I am not sure how that works with the regulators and flashback arrestors (all Greek to me) Also, I am using tanked oxygen (until I can afford to get an oxycon) The tanks are the "k" tanks and my dad gave me two with the securing harness set up.
ETA: I guess I should say that the propane is hard piped into the studio.

Thanks Janet!! I do love my new studio.. I got my mega minor hooked up and it is wonderful. I still use the hot head for a lot of my smaller beads. It is my escape.
