Default raku shards

How are raku shards best used? I'm not getting the good colors that I can using frit and raku stringer.

I usually start with a base of some color, then heat just the edge of the raku shard while holding it and I stick the hot edge to the bead and use the heat to "fold" the shard on. Then I heat the snot out of it.

Those are lovely Debbie, but I'm having the same problem as Sharon. I want the texture of the shard, not melted flat, but the colours don't 'pop' when it's not heated..................anybody have any ideas?
