Does anyone have a yoyo tut?
I just received a beautiful piece finished with yoyo's - I would love to try these. Anybody?

It's a round toy with a string. You tie it to your finger and unspool it towards the floor. Just as it hits the end of it's length (don't let it contact the floor) if you jerk it up a little bit, it'll re-roll into your hand.
Here's a video on them being used:

As for the question at hand, I don't know of a tutorial, but I know Lee Valley has a wooden yo-yo hardware kit. I imagine you'd make them the same way as a drawer pull and just that hardware instead. Though I seem to recall seeing a yo-yo in my lifetime that didn't have a bearing in the middle but just a post, so you might be able to make just two sides and carefully fuse them in the middle. Tough part's making two halves that are centered and balanced.

Do you mean yo-yo beads...the ones without holes?
Like these:

I think: - you make 2 marias of equal size and thickness
- punty off
- keep both of them warm
- take one maria and put a large dot on it in the middle
- "glue" the other maria to it
- anneal

A glass yo-yo would be incredibly cool though...but don't yo-yos have to be incredibly balanced to work right? That would leave it out of the realm of possibility for me.

Laura,
We would love to see how they are used. Make sure to post a picture of what you got and what you make!

Here is the bracelet I received. Just love it. The yoyo's have cooling marks and appear to be boro - I am going to try with 104 and will post results later

Wow, Laura, it's lovely! If you have results with 104, can't wait to hear how they were accomplished! Please let us know...

Not such great results. I did one half (a yo) with the connector - put it in the kiln, did the next side - pulled the first out of the kiln, but when I reintroduced to the flame it exploded. I am going to try one with a hole - I am not ready to cross over to the dark side (boro) just yet. Will keep trying. Laura
