Default What to do with Momkas multi-color rods?

I purchased a sample pack of Momkas colors from an american vendor. Instead of the normal color sample pack, they send me the multi-color one. With costums and shipping sending it back is way too expensive, so I will just have to make do with what I got.

The thing is, I have no idea what to do with this stuff. I am a newbie to boro and I was supposed to mess about with the sample pack, but somehow messing about with the multicolor rods is not as appealing.

Any ideas to how I can play with my multicolor rods will be very appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You can pull them into twisties for surface decoration or cut off slices for murrini.

Personally, I agree with you. Useful but not all that useful.

I wrote a little tute on how to make a Yin Yang pendant a while ago, pretty much the same technique applies to Momka's multi rods (but you don't have to worry about step 1 with Momka's glass). You can make very easy and nice looking pendants quite quickly ... you'll find that the multis are pretty cool!!! Here's the link for you. Hope that helps

I've known Momka a long time and I'd be willing to bet that if you contacted her that they will send you the correct sample pack at no charge. Customs, etc. I don't know but you'll probably have to pay that again. Woth a try!

I too make pendants out of them by just melting a ball and smashing it with my graphite paddle and adding a glass bail or a metal bail..

Default Hearts made with Momka's

The two lighter hearts (front and back) are made with Momka's Antique Beauty. The 'loop' is clear fumed with silver. The two darker hearts are both made with Momka's Gypsy Queen. Depending on how you 'stretch, ball up, section up with a knife, and all that jazz' your piece of glass you get different effects. I did these about 2 years ago. I really enjoyed these colors.

I make beads or pendants & then lightly rake or mix the colours alittle.
Also you can make implossions with stringers of a transparent colour
over white. I like the Rhapsody in Blue over white for implossions.

Thank you for all your great suggestions. I don´t feel as intimidated by those rods after reading your posts.

I´m sure momka is a very sweet lady (so I have heard), but I didn´t buy it from her. I got it from Sundance glass and it was such a hassle
Actually it was a friend of mine who got it. She made the order (a big one) september 2009 and got it may 2010. That is also one of the reasons I don´t want to send it back!

Wicked: I found your tut. Thank you. It looks great. http://www.lampworketc.com/forums/sh...5&postcount=17

Please feel free posting more suggestions and pictures...

Well multi rods can be used for anything you can possibly think of. iv made some marbles from them, if you take a 10mm rod and stripe the whole rod length wise just like an inch or 2 then twist in an artistic way melt round. they look cool, or take a 10 mm od stretch out to about6mm? then stripe and wigwag turn into marble and terminate ends in 3-4 full twists. they look pretty good.

Default make cane

You can layer over it to make special implosion canes!
I did a write up on it in Glassline Magazine (Jan 2010).
You can create some cool looks,

I like the idea of using them for pendants but what I want to do instead of slicing them or using them as normal rods and squishing them is to make frit. I take the rod, put it in a bucket and then smash it into pieces so you get multi-coloured shards! Even if it doesn't make even pieces it gives you the ability to get different textures and playing with the randomly coloured shards bits is fun.
edit because apparently the technical term is shards not frit

Challenge Sunflower or Gerber Red, coated in Amber Purple, then pulled and imploded.........beautiful. The implosion canes are my favorite thing to do. I will also make little circles outof them, with a few dots in the middle, and implode like that.
