I just had to bring this up for easy access, because I want to read it again and laugh again!

Good idea! These are hilarious!

My lesson learned the hard way:::if you decide, after putting a rod in the fire, that you like the other end better, don't take it out of the fire and grab the hot end.

If you think your mouth is a great place to hold a stringer as you work between different rods, DO NOT put the hot end into your mouth. It will hurt. This I know.

My newest one is don't start heating your mandrel and then decide you want to give it a quick rub to smooth the dried release.

Do not move a hot marble on a punty over your lap to get a closer look. Scars between your thighs are not pretty. Took 2 years for them to go away!

All of the marble injuries are sounding very familiar! I've learned 2 major lessons.

1. Don't try to catch a marble dropping off the punty. It ends your working session quickly.

2. Invest in, or make a sturdy apron of denim or heavier. Sacrifice one pair of jeans to save many.

I torched for several hours this past weekend, and when I was done and turned off the oxycons, there was silence. Absolute silence. And by absolute, I meant I didn't hear the vent fan running. And that was because I forgot to turn it on. I usually open the door and walk directly over to the fan switch, but I got distracted and forgot to flip the switch. I torched without ventilation. I hope I never do that again!

I have been guilty of turning on the fan, but forgetting to open the window

I will add to this one:

If you decide to move your kiln which is on a wheeled cart and your silver glass into an inside room due to a forecast of hurricane force winds and your workshop is nothing but windows, REMEMBER when you go to wheel the kiln back out to your workshop that there is a jar with a couple pounds of silver glass on top and it WILL spill onto your tile floor and it WILL break into multiple pieces!

I'm crying with you. I hope you were still able to use most of it, even if you made it into frit!

Time to give some of the newbies a chance to laugh at those of us who have already done at least some of the dumb stuff

Hi, I'm new to the forum and have come back to lampwork now that I have retired and have more me-time so the newbie mistake that I have that has stuck to me is that using the touch outside in bright sunshine is very deceiving and that that flame is actually a lot longer than what it looks like. I still have some tight skin on my left hand from that little lesson.

Very familiar to me, as you continue with one hand dipping in a bowl of water, just not to loose that precious piece of glass .

I accidently set one of my acrylic nails on fire, and it burned like a little torch. I'm getting rid of these silly nails!
