thank you, janet, mary and juls. it is a great work space and totally functional. before, i worked in a tiny corner of our entry hall. then we moved and i was able to create this work space. finally, everything in one room, at my finger tips. ....kath

dear stereoette,

a friend of mine who lampworks as well happens to have a husband who took mercy on us and designed that vent system for us. i took his wooden prototype to the sheet metal shop and had them fabricate it from his example. then, an hvac technician installed it for me and enclosed the motor in housing on the outside wall. since we use propane to fuel our heating system, i had it piped into the house so i can just turn it on and off both at an outside knob and under my work bench too. i have two knobs to turn the gas on and off for double protection from any leaks that might occur.

feel free to copy that photo and take it to a sheet metal shop near you. it captures the air and all that pooling of junk that collects near the torch and really whisks it away. plus, magnets stick to it so you can attach your tools easily.....kath

i open the windows above the sink and some windows on the wall behind me. it seems to work because i have an excellent flame on the torch and draw from the vent.

Quite the nice studio. Nice to have it all where you can find it, totally organized, great glass storage, with lots of light, too. And all the proper equipment, of course, with great safety measures. Lucky you. You really did "move" up with this place.

What a beautiful studio, you should be so proud!

I'm learning how difficult it is to set up a place to work that is safe, affordable and well designed. So much planning involved, and patience while it all comes to fruition. Well done!

Beautiful! Are you one to put everything back away when you are done working? I'm quite anal about that myself. lol

dear barbara,
oh gosh yes. i vacuum and wipe down everything and clean my torch after each use. i can't work unless my work area is cleared and clean. no way around it, it is the only way i can function. keeping things ordered is a stress reliever for me. even looking at some of the things that are out of place in these photos drives me nuts....kath
