Default breaking rod to make cane

I tried a search because it seems to me this was discussed before. I got some gaffer glass which is only available as frit or the honking big rods. What is the best way to break some of it off to make the lampwork scale cane?

Thanks for any help
Laurie

Default Large Rog

Eye Protection.

Pop it off the end with a cold chisel and hammer.
Chisel above, somewhat sharp edge underneath the rod.
Make sure the rod is level.

Then preheat it and stretch it into cane.

Have Fun, Wayne

Same as above, but I score with a glass cutter first.

I have also just hit it with a hammer and melted small chunks onto the end of a punty, then wound onto my mandrel from the punty.
