Default Murrini application?

Why does the final outside layer of my lime murrini “grow” when I apply it? It looks good in the cane but when I put it on beads the outer layer overpowers the center. I’m trying to press gradually ....

It's because, in general, opaque colors spread and transparent colors sink in. It is really obvious in fused glass, but the longer and hotter you work glass the more the opaque spreads. Maybe it would help to put clear around the green. Murrini makers would now better about that than I.

Do you have lime colored, or is it the lime slices, etc looking murrini?
Do you have pictures?

It’s a multi layer cane that looks like a slice of lime. Outer layer is a thin layer of grass green. I’ll try applying on a dot of clear, thx!

OH I've seen those! I love them. I believe the problem is that you are melting them in. I've only seen them as accents on top of a design, they stay a bit raised. Encasing with some clear would help too, but only if it stayed raised.

I tend to attempt things above my pay grade! There is a lot that I don’t know. A new cane with clear on the outside?? I want to make mohito earrings-clear, pixie dust, floating limes!

My thought is to dimple the bead where the murrini is going to go so that sits in the dimple.

Then melt a soft clear around it to support it, like the Double Helix ?Zepher? (I think its called).

A layer of clear or a similar green transparent on the outside of the cane would definitely help. I'm not sure if you're cutting pieces or using the whole cane to apply. If you're not using the cane, you may want to try that. Spot heat where to want it to go, plunge the cane, blow, and snap when it's not jiggly or moving anymore. Just takes a couple seconds. Then apply a dot of clear over it. It takes a bit of practice to get the heat and cooling right.
Another way, instead of snapping the cane off is to nip it with your small nippers.

Thanks-have tried that, as well. Last layer of clear did not help either! Putting aside until next spring! 😕
