Default CHEAP photo box

I found this at our local IKEA. It's called "Komplement", item # 101.067.94 and you get three boxes for $19.99. Each box is 11 3/4 inches by 13 3/4 inches. Here it is collapsed:

You zip the back to set up:

You lift the bottom into place:

You place your light source into place and take pictures. I'm showing my Ott light on top, but I've found it works best with a light on either side of the box:

I love Ikea! In fact, if anyone is near one would you mind picking me up something too? LIKE A WHOLE NEW LIVING ROOM?

Bet that light box works great though! I will check with my sister this weekend (who lives near Phili.) There
is a better chance on this item than what's on my list..... HOw many of the boxed are you needing? If you only need one and it works? You could sell off the other two on the Bay and have one for free!

He he - I actually found out my mother bought one when we were there - and I am going to buy the big one from her!

Thanks very much for your offer!

Okay, here are a couple of photos shot in natural light
a hollow petit choux (little cabbage)

and a Holly Cooper wannabe

I will shoot them under artificial light later today and see if I like that any better.
Oh, I have 2 extra boxes if anyone wants one- $8 plus whatever UPS charges to ship to you.

I sent just one box out today via UPS. PM me if you want a box. If there is enough interest, I will pick up more the next time I go to Ikea. I still have one available here. Shipping can get quite high as it's an odd size package. Anywhere from 8 to 12 dollars. I only use UPS to ship as they insure everything automatically. And they come to my house every day to pick up.
Emily, I'm not entirely happy with the lighting, but from what I've read, a darker background will help. I'm going to give it a shot as well as lighting from underneath and both sides. (Squid's idea!) I'll post pics as I shoot them.
Melissa, thanks for your kind comments.

They sell them in three's because they are storage boxes to fit a certain shelf setup that they also sell. They are not photo cubes, but work perfectly as a photo cube.

They do have them at Ikea.com. You have to buy 6(2 of three diff sizes), but for $7.99, I can use the others for storage!

Thanks, Carolyn!

Thanks, Carolyn!
The little ones in the set you are mentioning are not big enough (my mom has these and I checked hers). The ones mentioned here are much larger and are 19.99 for 3.

I looked at these at Ikea the other day and was a little concerned about how they'd work as light diffusers because the sides are very solid. The back is fabric, but the sides have cardboard or something inside the fabric to stiffen it. I don't think they'd let much light through. Still, I guess results are what matter, and if people are getting good results . . .

They work great! I do have to use 75 watt bulbs though.
