Copper Chore Boy Scrubbies in Beads
I am so excited, I have been here since 2005, learned so much from everyone and I finally have something to share. I am one of those people who tries to put lots of thing in or on beads to see what will work/happen. Copper chore boy scrubbies are 100% copper and have an interesting weave. I cut one apart and rolled a bead on the piece of mesh and covered it with clear. It was good with no cracking. It turned a bright red on the bead, also showed the weave just perfectly. It made lots of little pieces when I cut it up so I tried those like frit and it turns the same blue greens as copper foil. I hope someone can use this idea to do something cool.

That is so cool. What color did you use for the base bead. And I'm guessing it was 104?

Okay, bit of a sidetrack here but how do you get blue greens from copper foil?
I just get grey black color when I try it.

Turn the oxygen way up and hold the bead in there, I see little sparks. It causes it to oxidize or patina. I love the affect but haven't done it in awhile. It also helps when using foil to roll it in a light colored enamel first, then apply the copper foil. CC2

Yes the base bead is 104. Ivory with transparent blue then the copper then encased with clear. Sometimes it takes a lot of work to get colors out of copper foil, mine start out black and gray but with a lot of heat turn colors.

Another neat idea to play with is cutting very tiny sections of copper tubing, the kind used for hinges in stained-glass boxes. Get a bead nice and hot, roll it over the tubing sections to pick a bunch up, and encase. The tubing bits go bright red and trap bubbles. it's an interesting effect; unfortunately, I don't have any on hand at the moment, so no pics. Sorry!

Do you have to encase it before heating? Or heat it up a bunch then encase?
I don't have enamel so I'll have to try without it first.
Oh, I'm using an oxycon too. Hopefully I'll be able to turn the propane down enough to work this right.
