HI Everyone.... My glass came yesterday...

Holly... Love the beads... The watermelon looks good enough to eat...

Kristina... Just toooo cute.... I see a little pink bull with wings...

Lisa... Beautiful organic look...

Has anyone bought the Factory odd lot rods????
I got the 18Lb box... You will not believe the colors you get in those odd lot boxes... I got a transparent purple that is so dark and rich it looks black, but it is not black it is a true purple... I also got a transparent fushia that is very deep, more red than purple, this is a hard color to describe...
If you have a few pennies to spare for glass, I do recommend these odd lot boxes... They are like opening a gift at Christmas, not too sure what your getting but you know it will be good...

I got a good reaction between these colors... I call it "ET Phone Home"
hight density black, silver/copper/brass metal frit, with OP lemon yellow dots melted in... The OP lemon yellow turns a bright shade of slime green (chartreuse green) around the edges of the dots... With the metal frit I got a black center in the yellow dots as well... Sorry the picture is not all that good...

I'm off to play, the metallic coppery glass is calling me...

Hi Jennie, mine was shipped Monday but I am not too impatient. I have a heap of glass I haven't touched yet. N and D must have been hip deep in orders so it doesn't worry me.

Cheers

Houkje..yes..I bought that large box of odd lots too and it was so much fun going thru it!I also got the longer shorts 10 lb box.Wish I knew what some of the names of the colors are..lol.I got a ton of different shades of Autumn transparents and lots of violets and purples.I do love any purple.I was hoping for more butterscotch rods as in my first order last Winter,Natasha put in a bag of maybe 2 lbs of butterscotch shorts and the same amount of Opaque Christmasy Red.These were gifts!Wow! I made a small barrel with the Butterscotch and must have used too much heat..not being used to DV glass and it came out like a wood grained etched bead.I loved its organic look tho.I was upset when I saw Butterscotch wasn't listed in the glass the last time.I hope they bring it back next time.I love your ET bead..lol..it made me get a craving for olives..yum
Lisa..truly gorgeous Butterscotch and silver bead!I have to try that for sure and maybe not fry it this time although I did love my "instant' etched bead.
If anyone has been back to the Devardi site in the past few days there is a note by the metallic coppery black on how someone has been able to bring out the copper with a propane/oxygen torch rather than only being able to bring out the copper with a Hothead or similar"just propane' type torch.I did try that yesterday..dots of the coppery color on a pale opaque violet that I had on my bench and following the girls directions, was able to get copper from a few of my dots.My Hothead torch is at our retirement place but hubby is going there this weekend to mow grass and he is bringing it back for me.Yeah! Can't wait..
Kym..yes..the rolling marver looks great!Someone on the fibromyalgia/medical problem glassworking thread said it was a must have with my electric winder and it looks so in the Dvd that came with the winder,so I decided I had to have it..lol..of course..so my cat ordered it for me for Mothers day
Thats all from NY Have a great evening all!

Lisa, really pretty bead, how you kept it shiny is beyond me....lol. the only way I get shiny butterscotch beads is to make small ones. Don't know if it's me, or the torch, or the glass, or what the dealio is...but I love to see beads like yours...

Houkje, love the ET phone home bead....!

Diana if you like the autumn transparents, you will love the opaque browns....I could never ever find pretty brown glass before. It all had a red tint to it. The med brown opaque is a great color, as is the dark brown. People really like the earth tone beads I make. The butterscotch goes "organic" on me too....lol.. but it does look neat, so I just go with the flow.....and I'm going to give the metallic copper black a go this weekend and see what I can come up with...

Okay, you all drove me nuts talking about Hollows and seeing the gorgeous ones in the Gallery. I just made this hollow using Transparent Vibrant Blue. That has got to be one of the most gorgeous blues in the world!

So here's my first hollow and a Froggie Buddy who hopped on before I got through! He's made of the Effetre Pea Green. I haven't gotten to try the new Frog Green from this shipment yet. If anyone else gets it and works with it tell us how you like it!

Can you see the Annealing Bubble still between his toes? We could start a new craze here making Hollows!

Kristina if you go back a page or two I have a bead that is frog green. I totally love the color. And I have yet to try a hollow, I really should give it a try.

I think I am on a new craze, making hollows with froggies attached! The one on the right has flowers across her rear, so you know she's a girl! I used multi-colors on both from thick stringers I pulled. That made the hollows more unstable and harder to get round, but gives an interesting look.

Have any of you tried to make them yet? I don't think I could make them without that graphite pencil tool I made to move and flare and push the edges together!

What are techniques you are using, if any of you get into making them?

Lisa - yummy organic
Houkje - looks like a great Halloween bead to me. Add some orange and purple spacers and I bet it will sell!
Kristina - great job on the hollows, are you sure you haven't made them before?

I'm hoping to get some play time tonight and try the hollows and some of my new glass. Maybe even a frog or two in frog green! Fingers crossed that family life cooperates with me!

I tried the trans dark violet Monday night. It is so dark that it looks black. Don't think I will be using much of it!
The tran light green is fantastic! Gorgeous color, not shocky and good and stiff. Love it! The metallic black is so much easier to use than the original stuff. Pretty!
The semi op light baby green is nice. Faded slightly-but easy to work. Not shocky.
Tried the copper black-could not use my torch. Will dig out the hothead and try this weekend.
I made mostly spacers and test beads. I will post pics later today or tomorrow.
Happy torching!

No Jenn, but the Devardi glass is so stiff that it makes it pretty easy. And I watched a few YouTube videos on how to do them. I bet I would have a blobby mess if I tried to make one with effetre and put a frog on it! Maybe I will just to see how it goes. I found that some of the glass that gets thermal cracking from cooling to fast will pop off if you don't keep it well warmed ... but the blues and purples seem to do great!

Be sure to show yours when you get done!

♥.:**:.♥.: Bethany :.♥.:**:.♥ - thank you so much for the review of the different glass!

Paula - you will be SO glad you got the Rod Warmer, it makes such a difference! Hope you enjoy your new treasures! I can't wait for the coppery rod. I want to try to use it like a gold accent.

Jenn, you're gonna have a ball. !!!!!
Kristina I make my hollows "old school" or at least that was the way it was described to me. I put 2 tall disks on a mandrel heat them up good, until they collapse together....it's pretty cool, sometimes you have to nudge them a bit, but I like this method because they aren't so heavy and come out really smooth...

Try putting it on top of (or encasing and pulling stringers) periwinkle or white. You'll see more purple then I bet.

Jenn, you are SO mean! Posting all those beautiful goodies and I can't come by to play too!

Holly, I will try that, but so far I have been pushing the outer rims toward the center and then applying the last center rounds of glass. I am not getting them round though, so I will try your method!

Good Morning everyone;;
I gave the coppery black a try... Here are my results, not the best beads or pictures, but I do like the shinny finish... These beads were worked on a Mag torch with a BBQ tank propane...
Bead # 1... All coppery black.. Very shinny new penny copper color...
Bead # 2... SOP white with coppery black frit melted in and stretched.. Nice reaction, got an almost copper shadowing on some of the frit and full shinny on others. Nice very fine halo effect on all frit, shows well in the mirrored bead... Not sure how I got this effect, but I like it...
Bead # 3... Light Ivory or Tan (not sure, will have to try this again) with coppery black frit melted in... Very shinny with an almost red iridescent center to most of the frit.. Black looks to bleed some in the picture but I can't see it on the bead..
Bead # 4... Transparent Dark Purple with coppery black frit, melted in and pulled.. Coppery brick red effect on transparent colors. I did other transparent colors and got the same effect.. It a dull shinny, almost like the transparent encases the frit all by its self... Good or bad, I'm not sure... It is a very unique reaction color...

Now lets see what other reactions (pictures) others got... PLEASE I like pictures !!!!

Now I need to go back and read all that I have missed...

Very nice! I found my hothead but did not find the clamp to hold it to the table. Guess I need to get another-because I want to try that copper!

Diana... I have a limit of 18LB of glass a month (give or take )... So if there are no new colors that I need or want (never happens ), then I order the 18Lb Odd Lot box.. It is always great fun and some times colors that you just don't get on the site... I also wish I knew the color name/# that they are... I haven't tried any of the shorts yet.. I did get a shorts rod holder so now I will have to try them...

Holly... Thank you

Kristina... Love the frogs, they are just too cute.. Hollows... I don't think I'm brave enough to give them a try yet... I do like yours though, they are fabulous...

Paula.... You will wonder how you lived without the warmer... I had frit all over the bench (not just Devardi, but any shocky glass) before I got mine, now I am frit deficient, it is great... Have fun...

Jenn... Thanks for the idea on the colors for Halloween.. My Granddaughter claimed this one and we made a bookmark with it... OMG look at all the fun you are going to have.. We need to see pictures of you creations, when you get time of course...

Bethany... Thank you.... If you go to Devardi's site, look in the specialty glass section, someone got the coppery color to come out on a propane/oxygen torch and tells how they did it... You might want to give it a try...???? Let us all know how it worked...

I think I got everyone, if not, sorry.. I'll just say a big THANKS everyone...

Like Bethany said, it is a sister to a hothead... The mag is a bit less money... If you can keep your propane at room temp or warmer, then it works great, if your propane is to cold then you are better with a hothead torch.. Something to do with the pressure of the gas.. Mine sits in the sun and I haven't had any problems...

Houkje..wow!Beauuutiful beads!I tried the onsite suggestion to bring out the copper with my propane/oxy torch..only got a few copper dots but lots of irredescent dots.Burned the heck out of the opaque marine green, though but if you are looking for a milk choc color and don't have any browns..do that..lol.I'll have my hothead back on the weekend so am playing with some of the other colors.
I have a question.I have the rod warmer and yes...it's great for the shocky colors but when I make a bead and set the rod down to look at and load the bead into the kiln...the end of the rod shocks off before I can use it again.I can't put it back in the warmer as soon as I make the bead cause it sticks to any other rods in there...has anyone had a similar situation and have you resolved it somehow? It's only with just a few colors and I'll frit the little tips so it's not a waste issue.
Houkje..how's that 18 lb limit workin for ya? I was rooting around in my work area last night and can't believe how much glass I have stashed away.I'm running out of things to disguise it in..yikes..my hubby has no idea!Lol...
Have a great day,all!
