Default Is it possible to disable the kiln beep?

I think you can disable the alarm, and I would also like to get rid of the constant beeping while scrolling through numbers while programming.

Maybe I can muffle the dang thing!

We had piezoelectric alarms in a computer room I worked at in the Navy that were about 3 times louder than the legal limit for hearing damage these days.

We figured out that covering the plastic speaker with a layer or two of clear packing tape would take enough of the energy out of it that we would not jump out of our skin every time it went off.

You might have to take a screw driver to the case to get at it though.

Any chance you can call the maker and see if they know of a way to program it to be less intense?

The beeper on my kiln started whining constantly, so I sent the controller in and they simply removed the beep.

So it can be done on an orton controller, but don't ask me how.

There is always the option of ear plugs. Maybe you can get some that will let you listen to music instead. LOL

OK, folks. I contacted Paragon & have a solution to my problem. Phil was (of course) on the right track. Here's what to do:

1. Remove control panel. This is the part where the buttons are for programming. It is held on by 4 screws + washers (phillips).

2. Gently pull control panel assembly out of the case, there are many wires attached.

3. Remove circuit board from panel cover. 4 screws + insulating washers on inside 4 corners.

4. The beeping thing (piezo) is round with a hole in the middle--maybe 3/4 inch tall, the diameter of a nickel. Tape over the hole.

5. Replace everything. taking care to gently push wires inside the case.

Voila! The beep is gentle & won't alarm the neighbors, who tend to think any beeping sound is a smoke alarm.

This is for my Paragon Caldera with Sentry 4.0 controller. Other brands & models may be different. YMMV.

No skinned knuckles, no bleeding, not even very much swearing involved. Only casualty is a hole in my favorite t shirt that snagged on the bead door while I was working.

I am so glad it was such an easy fix for you.

I already have ringing in the ears (tinnitus) and those types of noises just seemed to have been designed to set it off like a fire cracker. The ringing after effects can go on for hours.

And Thank You for the compliment.
